Gifts that I have seen given to male instructors are: bottles of wine, gift cards for food, gasoline, coffee, a birthday cake if the lesson is on the day of the birthday, DVDs. Maybe one of these ideas will work, stay away from anything too personal.

Yes, nothing too personal. Try an engraved pen or foot care products. Also popular are gift certificates for a massage (as long as you aren't the one giving it) or pedicure. These guys are on their feet all day and they appreciate someone who notices and cares.

My instructor is a Starbucks Coffee shop junkie. I've tried a few times to go outside the box and give him a gift cheese pack or a cookie gift box. Nothing ever hit the mark with him than the Starbucks gift cards.
